The Two iPads: What's the Difference?
If possible, the Air 2 is even thinner than the iPad Air. The younger device 2 is only 6.1mm thick, while its predecessor measures 7.5mm. Another difference between the two tablets is in the Home button – the successor comes with Apple's TouchID in its home button, which enables the Apple Pay feature. Unlike its older sibling, the newer device is available in gold, and Apple's also improved the camera department on its ultra slim tablet – 8-megapixel shooter with a resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels, plus a number of camera features: the burst mode, and the ability to record time-lapse and slow-mo videos. Display: Less Reflections
The screen size and the display of the Air 2 didn't change, but it still got one major upgrade in this department – anti-reflective coating, which reduces reflections off the screen up to 56%. Apple merged three separate layers of the display into one and managed to offer better colours, contrast, and a thinner body.
Performance: Faster and Better
Here's where we can see the real difference between the original device and its successor. The younger device is 40% faster than the original and comes with 2.5 times better graphics than the first Air. The newer device sports Apple's A8X processor, which is processes data 12 times faster! The motion coprocessor M8 takes a load off the main processor, making your device function a whole lot better.
Battery Life: No Complaints
Both the original one and its successor allow up to 10 hours of web browsing using Wi-Fi, and up to 9 hours using 3G/LTE. Unlike the rest of the smartphone manufacturers, Apple never shows the capacity of its batteries in mAh, but the company did state that there's been a significant reduction in the size of the battery from 32.4 to 27.3 watts hours (W/h). It's obvious it's the A8X processor and iOS 8 that are keeping the battery levels equal.
