Pepsi Now Has a Phone of Its Own Called the Pepsi Phone P1

Pepsi Now Has a Phone of Its Own Called the Pepsi Phone P1

If Marshall and Caterpillar have their respective smartphones, why shouldn’t Pepsi, too? Yesterday, PepsiCo officially announced a mid-range Android handset that will soon become available in China and China alone. While the Pepsi Phone P1 won’t come anywhere near Europe, it doesn’t mean that we can’t still see what all the fuss is about and what makes the P1 different than other Android phones out there.

The Pepsi P1 Offers Impressive Hardware and an Affordable Price Tag

Gold Pepsi Phone P1 front and back

Manufactured by Shenzhen Scooby Communication Equipment through a crowd-funding campaign, the P1 actually has all the makings of some of the top phone models currently available on the market. It comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p display (plus 2.5D glass) and an aluminium unibody. On the inside is an octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor clocked at 1.7GHz, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of built-in storage (expandable), which should make the phone perform everyday tasks without a glitch.

Fans of photography and selfies will be glad to hear that the Pepsi Phone P1 boasts a 13-megapixel main (rear) camera and a solid 5-megapixel front-facing shooter. On the phone’s back is a fingerprint sensor and the entire device is powered by a mighty 3000mAh battery. Other specs include Android 5.1 Lollipop, a dual-SIM slot, 4G LTE, WiFi 802.1 b/g/n, and Bluetooth 4.0.

A Limited Offer for 1,000 Users

Like we mentioned above, the P1 is being funded through a campaign and if it reaches its goal of $469,950 by December 3, the device will hit the market next month, at the price of $200 (roughly £130). Just like on Kickstarter, there are three bids for the P1, and the devices that cost $78 (£50) have already sold out. The next up are $110 (around £70) and $150 (almost £100) bids, and the catch is that there are only 1,000 units of each available.

How about it? Would you consider getting a handset such as this one only because it has a famous logo on its back?
