The YotaPhone 2 Has a Touchscreen Both on Its Back and Front

The YotaPhone 2 Has a Touchscreen Both on Its Back and Front

A couple of days ago, Yota revealed the second-generation YotaPhone that, like its predecessor, comes with an AMOLED screen on the front, and an e-paper screen on its back. It’s definitely an unusual-looking smartphone, so let’s go and check out its specs.

Display

On the front of the YotaPhone 2 is a 5” AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, while its back sports a monochrome 4.7” e-paper screen with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels (235ppi).

Dual-screen YotaPhone 2

The latter can be used for customizing your phone’s back with widgets and for reading text. The best part – your phone’s battery won’t be affected because of two screens, because the back display only draws power when it refreshes. The YotaPhone 2’s rear screen is touch controlled, where the original’s wasn’t (it came with a touch panel), and both displays are protected by Gorilla Glass 3.

Processor, Storage, and Battery

The YotaPhone 2 boasts a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of non-expandable storage. There’s an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash on its back, and a 2.1-megapixel shooter in the front, and the device is powered by a 2,500mAh battery. The company claims that this battery will get you “5 days of reading on a single charge and 2 days of basic smartphone functions if you configure YotaEnergy”.

The phone also supports wireless charging and runs Android 4.4 KitKat. Connectivity options include: LTE, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, A-GPS + GLONASS, and microUSB 2.0 (with SlimPort).

Price and Availablity

You can get the YotaPhone 2 on Yota’s official website for now, but bear in mind that it is available in limited numbers. The phone is costly, too – £555 in the UK, about €700 in other European regions. It will arrive to the US and Asia early next year, at the price of $650. The phone will start shipping on December 15 in the UK.
