Every year, Apple brings out their next flagship line of the iPhone series. Last year, iPhone 13 was all that anybody could talk about. And this year again, the Apple iPhone 14 leaks and rumours are making the rounds.
The iPhone 14 news has gotten every Apple enthusiast excited. The phone is expected to come with some big changes as showcased in many of the iPhone 14 concept videos.
In this post, we have rounded up everything we could learn about the iPhone 14 series. Whether it will be worth an upgrade from the last iPhone series is your choice to make.
iPhone 14 Release Date: When will the iPhone 14 Launch?
Undoubtedly, “when is the iPhone 14 coming out?” is the top searched question regarding this Apple device. The announcement regarding this series is expected to be somewhere around the middle of September.
However, speculations suggest that the series might be announced as early as the thirteenth of September. As with the iPhone 13 announcement, the new line is also expected to be a virtual showcase with enticing videos and stage demonstrations.
So, when will the iPhone 14 be released into the market? Expectations are that the smartphone will launch a week after its announcement. However, one model in the series is said to be behind schedule due to the Covid restrictions in China.
iPhone 14 Price: How Much is the iPhone 14?
Source: Forbes.com
While official news regarding the pricing is yet to be released, the rumours are already out there.
In comparison to the iPhone 12, the UK was greeted with a £20 smaller price tag on the iPhone 13. The iPhone 14 standard model is expected to have a similar price to its series 13 counterpart. But that’s about where the good news for the pricing stops.
If rumours are to be believed, you will have to stretch your budget for the other models in the series. Sources have claimed that internal discussions are leaning towards higher prices for the larger models of the series.
One level above the standard, the iPhone 14 Max is expected to have its price tag bumped up by an additional $100, putting it at $899 (about £650). The trend continues with the iPhone 14 Pro costing up to $1,099, while the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max would cost around $1,199.
iPhone 14: What will the iPhone 14 Look Like?
Source: MacRumors.com
If you have been waiting for an iPhone 14 foldable design or an iPhone 14 flip design, then you are in for disappointment. While their Android competitors, Samsung and Huawei, have released foldable designs for their smartphones, it is unlikely for Apple to steer themselves in that direction.
The answer to “what is the iPhone 14 going to look like?” is a cross between an iPhone 12 and an iPhone 4.
The latest iPhone is said to sport flat edges while including a mute button as well as rounded buttons for volume control. Additionally, the sides are expected to be made of titanium for a tougher and stronger construction. The back is expected to have a satin-like glass finish.
While the standard model is expected to remain very similar to its predecessor, most design changes are expected to appear in the Pro models. The Pro models are expected to have a raised camera array and no display notch. You can also expect a reduced bezel size while the height and width won’t stray much from their predecessors.
Additionally, it is expected that the iPhone 14 series will not see an iPhone 14 mini, which will be replaced by the iPhone 14 Max. The standard model and Max model are likely to have a similar design with the difference being in their size.
iPhone 14 Features: What Has Changed?
In this section, we look further into the different physical aspects of the iPhone 14 series.
Display
From the iPhone 14 design leaks, the display is expected to be slightly larger than its predecessors. The main difference will be due to the pill-and-hole replacing the notch in the Pro sizes as well as the thin bezels.

No Notch
As previously mentioned, the Pro models will ditch the notch and go for the pill-and-hole design. These two models in the series will have a pair of smaller apertures for the front-facing camera along with other sensors.
Touch ID
The Touch ID is touted to return. If rumours are to be trusted, there are two potential approaches to reinstating this feature. Apple could potentially introduce an under-display fingerprint sensor as seen with many smartphones these days.
Alternatively, they may opt for a Touch ID sensor similar to that deployed in the iPad Air (2020) and the new iPad mini (2021) in the power button. However, speculations remain as to whether the sensor will be reintroduced, and if so, whether it would be only for the top-tier models in the series.
Colours
One of the most exciting parts of the releases is the colour options. Apple often takes its inspiration from the year’s trendy colours. If we are to go by Pantone colours for Autumn 2022, iPhone 14 green or iPhone 14 pink seem like plausible possibilities. We can expect iPhone 14 colours to be bold and bright.

iPhone 14 Specifications: What to Expect for Features?
With each new series, Apple iPhone users expect an upgrade in the specifications and features built into the device. This series is also expected to meet the hype with the following specs.
New A16 Processor
The iPhone 14 will likely be the best-performing smartphone from Apple yet, if the rumours are to be trusted. It is likely to feature the new A16 processor which uses TSMC’s 3-nanometer manufacturing process. This chipset will provide higher efficiency, improve performance, and deliver better battery life.
However, the new processor may be limited to the Pro models, while the other ones will receive a relatively upgraded A15 chip.
Extra RAM
Bumping up RAM capacity might once again be only for the Pro versions with an 8GB RAM. The non-pro versions will also receive an upgrade from 4GB to 6GB. Another rumour claims that all iPhone 14 models will jump to 6GB RAM with iPhone 14 Pro receiving a higher-end LPDDR5 versus the LPDDR4X.
ProMotion Screens
Unlike the iPhone 13 series, the entire iPhone 14 series is said to be geared towards better displays. Users can expect the iPhone 14 series to feature LG’s LPTO OLED displays with a 120Hz refresh rate. This would mean a ProMotion technology experience that was previously limited to only the Pro models in the iPhone 13 series.
Always-on Display
There seems to be a possibility of Apple bringing the Always-on Display features seen in Apple Watches to the iPhone 14 series. The feature is likely to be restricted to the Pro models and may be tied in with the iOS 16 update.

Better Battery Life
With improvements in 5G technology, iPhone 14 models are rumoured to have better battery life. The smaller and energy-efficient components of 5G technology will allow for more space in the chassis, and therefore a larger battery capacity.
Bigger Storage
There are also rumours of the storage capacity being increased to 2TB. While we love the idea of having more space to store all the amazing videos and photos that we would take with the iPhone 14, the idea seems a little far-fetched. We are expecting Apple to continue the same trend for storage capacities as was seen with the iPhone 13 series.
No Lightning Port
An iPhone 14 USB C is a heavy possibility. The USB C port became a reality in iPads and is a step towards unifying charging cables as per the efforts of the EU Commission. You can learn more about USB charging with our post, “USB Charging Guide: Find the Right USB Charging Cables and Chargers”.
Contradicting rumours suggest that Apple will be moving in the direction of USB C ports, but not until 2023. Whether Apple will ditch the lightning cables remains to be seen with the iPhone 14 series.
New MagSafe Adapter
Apple is not new to the idea of having patented technology. Rumours abound regarding a new MagSafe adapter that would be similar to those seen with old MacBooks. Whether this linear array of magnets will be turned into reality, is questionable given the push toward standardisation of charging cables.
Upgraded Camera

One of the most beloved features of the iPhone is its camera system. The pictures always come out amazing, and if the rumour regarding camera upgrades is true, we are all in for a treat.
The upgrade will most likely be for its Pro models. Leaked schematics show camera bumps protruding 4.17mm from the back of the case. The system is said to feature a 48MP sensor for the standard wide camera, with the pixels’ light collection in a 2×2 grid for amazing low-light pictures. It is also speculated that you will be able to shoot 8K videos with the Pro models.
Your selfies might also get an upgrade with a possible autofocus and a wider aperture (f/1.9) in the front camera.
5G Connectivity
The mmWave 5G seems like a very good possibility for the iPhone 14 series with the newly updated X65. This technology is capable of providing speeds of 1-2 gigabits per second (theoretically), which together with the Sub-6GHz 5G version’s long-range ability will allow unprecedented speeds and improved power efficiency.
Wi-Fi 6E
The new iPhone series is also expected to upgrade to Wi-Fi 6E which offers compatibility with the 6Hz band, increasing bandwidth, improving speeds, and reducing interference.
Possible e-SIM Variant
Speculations regarding an e-SIM-only variant of the iPhone 14 are also going around. Most people prefer to be able to use dual-sim smartphones, and this potential iPhone model could benefit many.
Should I Wait for the iPhone 14?
At present, iPhone 13 models are readily available. These smartphones have been tried and tested, proving themselves to be a good choice. The decision to wait for the next series of iPhones is most likely to be a personal choice.

If the rumours do turn out to be true, you can expect iPhone 14 series’ models to be much better than the iPhone 13 series. Additionally, the iPhone 13 series is likely to mark the end of Mini models. The new series will offer you better performance and efficiency as well as better battery life.
There are some features that are limited to the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Release dates being the only deciding factor, these phones are likely to be worth the wait.
