The most frequent Galaxy S4 problems

The Samsung Galaxy S4 was presented in March 2013 and it belongs to the group of the most popular smart phones on the market. It was first introduced with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, but was later on updated to Android KitKat. This smartphone comes with advanced specifications and its performance is outstanding, but discussion forums are still full of comments regarding the issues this device has, which is why we've decided to gather the most common S4 problems right here and offer some solutions.

The most common problems

My Battery Runs Out Too Quickly

This is a problem almost all smartphones have nowadays and it's become normal for the battery to last just a day. The Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with a 2,600 mAh battery which should (in theory) offer 370 hours of (3G) standby time, 17 hours of (3G) talk time and 62 hours of music playback. There are a couple of solutions that can help you solve this particular problem:

- Disable any functions that you are not using at all times, such as Wi-Fi, GPS, mobile data, Air View, NFC, etc.
- Activate the Power Saving mode in Quick Settings.
- Reduce the brightness of your screen.
- Use a dark wallpaper.
- Watch out for applications that are being synced nonstop. You can set the time of synchronization in the settings menu for most apps, such as Facebook.

Other common problems

My S4 Lags

If an application is failing to respond in a timely manner or slows down your smartphone, then your handset is experiencing a lag or a stutter. To avoid this, go to Settings>Developer Options and scroll down. Try changing the Window Animation Scale, the Transition Animation Scale and the Animator Duration Scale to Off. If you do not see the Developer Options, go to Settings>More>About Device and tap the Build Number several times (a pop-up message will appear on your screen when development options are unlocked).

SIM Card is Not Inserted

This is not an uncommon problem when it comes to smartphones. When this happens, you might not have service or you might get a message saying SIM Card Removed. Possible solutions for this problem:

- Remove the SIM card. Make sure everything is clean and then put the card back in your phone.
- If you have another SIM card, try that one instead. If it works, then you just need to get a new SIM card from your operator. If this does not work, then there might be a hardware issue and you should request another phone.

My Galaxy S4 Randomly Restarts

There are a couple of possible solutions for this problem:

- Update your operating system. Go to Settings>More> About Device>Software Update>Update.
- You should also make sure that all of your applications are updated by loading the Play Store and going to My Apps. Once there, choose the Update All option.
- Many problems with the S4 appear to be related to memory cards. Memory cards for the Samsung Galaxy S4 can be very useful, but they can also cause problems. If you have a microSD card, try removing it and see if your S4 reboots after that.
