The Android devices called Nexus are flagships of Google. Google had a Nexus smartphone launched, but a Nexus tablet was missing. At the end of June 2012, Google has changed this with the launch of the Nexus 7. This tablet has been developed together with ASUS and contains an optimal integration of software and hardware. It is incredibly popular, mainly due to the favourable price - it is a "budget" tablet PC with a retail price of less than 200 euros. The Nexus 7 was selected as a tablet of the 2012, in category of smaller tablets with a screen size of 7-8 inches.
Tablet of the year: ASUS Nexus 7
What strikes the most when you take the Nexus 7 out of the box is that the build quality is great. The tablet has quite minimalist design. This is possible because the tablet is quite limited in functionality. So there is no camera present (video chat is still possible with the front camera) and there is no entry for a SIM card. The Google / ASUS Nexus 7 is a 7-inch tablet with a resolution of 1,280 by 800 pixels and 216 PPI (pixels per inch). Additionally, the display uses the IPS technology for wider viewing angles and higher brightness. Furthermore, the tablet includes a Tegra 3 quad-core processor with a clock speed of 1.3GHz, a 12-core Nvidia GeForece graphics processor, a microUSB connection with host function, 1GB of RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC (Android Beam), optional 3G and 16GB or 32GB of storage memory. Unfortunately, the memory cannot be expanded using a microSD memory card. At the front of the tablet is a 1.2 megapixel camera and the battery should last for at least 8 hours under normal use, according to Google. These features ensure that the tablet runs like a charm and is easy to use for several days on a single battery charge. The tablet is therefore very suitable for light tasks like browsing and reading articles but also heavier tasks such as games, although that of course will have impact on the Nexus 7 battery.
Official Dock and other accessories for Nexus 7
For the time being, Asus released following official accessories for Nexus 7: Nexus 7 dock, Nexus 7 adapter & cable and Nexus 7 Travel Cover. Docking station for Google Nexus 7 is made specifically for this tablet; its attractive design combines polished glass on the outside with durable rubber grip on the inside. The dock has a micro-USB port for easy charging of a Nexus 7 when placed into a dock. A special 3.5 mm jack allows stereo output via the speakers. The dock is designed to ensure a comfortable viewing angle for movies, web browsing, social networking and other activities. 10 Watt adapter and cable is nothing special to mention, because of the default ports Nexus 7 uses. On the other hand, Asus introduced whole range of colourful Nexus 4 travel covers, with a flexible and non-slip matte texture. These snug-fitting Nexus7 covers provide great grip and protection against daily wear and tear. Of course, there is also a variety of different accessories for Nexus 7, made by third party manufacturers, so if you do not like the look of a Travel Cover, you can always buy Nexus 7 case made by famous manufacturers, such as: Case-Mate, iGadgitz, Piel Frama, Sena, etc. If you are you looking for an affordable tablet, the Nexus 7 is the best choice you have. The relatively small 7-inch screen will work in your favour. Google and ASUS show that the concept of a small tablet works well, provided it is properly implemented. With the price and hardware, you will not make a mistake if you choose to buy this tablet.
